Let’s just do something ‘viral’

I feel people flippantly suggest brands do something ‘viral’, without fully understanding what it means.

Here’s a couple of my favourite quotes that deal with the term nicely:

“We have a company rule: whenever you feel the urge to say ‘viral’ replace it with ‘fun’.” - Barbarian Group

“True Viral campaigns are not something advertisers create; consumers create them by deciding something is meaningful enough to forward on” - ANA Social Media Forum
